Intro to RiveScript

RiveScript is a scripting language that gives bots the ability to reply to requests from humans via natural language.

Why does RiveScript exist?

RiveScript was first created as a Perl module as an alternative to the popular XML-based reply language, AIML (Artificial Intelligence Markup Language). It was intended to be lighter and easier to parse, and also more flexible and more powerful than AIML. It wasn't long before it matched AIML's capabilities and quickly surpassed them.
